Dr. Charles Runels invented a technique of using platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection into the shaft of the penis. He coined the term, P-Shot™, after the Greek god, Priapus, who was cursed by Hera to maintain an erection constantly. After experimenting and injecting himself, he began to offer the therapy to others. Essentially stem cells along with their associated anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors attempt to regenerate the penile tissue, vascular channels, and nerve restoration to improve erections. However, PRP has a limited and small amount of stem cells associated with it for tissue repair; and as one would expect, as humans age, like everything else, the number of stem cells and potency of them diminishes.

Our board-certified urologist, Dr. R. Clay Williams offers the p-shot to treat erectile dysfunction at our clinic in Dallas & Texarkana, TX. Schedule an appointment at our clinic by calling (903) 732-2005.

Priapus Enhancement Therapy

closeup of exosomeUsing regenerative medicine, the one alternative to potentially improving erectile dysfunction is injecting stem cells or exosomes directly into the penile shaft. This is a non-surgical and painless procedure being offered to restore a man’s confidence to potentially have stronger, firmer erections. We also use exosomes for men with Peyronie’s disease, curvature of the penis. In order to improve the number of stem cells delivered and to ensure younger, more robust mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), the shot is frequently given using cells derived from umbilical cords (Wharton’s Jelly). Using the minimally manipulated cell population obtained this way, the so-called “P-Shot” is better performed with potentially faster and more sustainable results than using aged out platelet-associated stem cells. If given the options, considering that MSCs derived from umbilical tissue is being used for so many systemic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson’s, autoimmune, osteoarthritis (and not PRP), why would one choose to have the older “P-Shot” using PRP over what clearly appears to be a more advantageous method of using umbilical cord derived MSCs?

Exosomes are the primary method that Elite Enhancement utilizes for the Priapus Enhancement Therapy as countless studies show exosomes are equal to or even more advantageous than stem cell injections at a fraction of the cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

The procedure itself only takes a few short minutes, unlike traditional PRP which takes anywhere between 40-60 minutes. This is performed in the office with no anesthesia required and is painless. You may drive yourself home after the procedure.

No, there are no side effects reported. You will be asked to achieve daily erections 2-3 times a day for 6- 8 weeks which will require using a Vacuum Erection Device (VED) daily. This has been found to be a necessary addition in order to better achieve optimal success. Starting this as early as possible is vital, even hours after injection. Obviously, you resume sexual activity the same day as the procedure.

Exosome injection into the penis is attempting to alleviate and reverse the damage to the nerves, blood vessels, and tissues that are all responsible for achieving durable and sustainable erections. Trimix and other similar injectables are shots to actually produce an erection within 10-15 minutes and must be given each time you desire an erection. This method is usually chosen after someone has tried and failed oral medications such as Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra. They do not attempt to reverse the damage. They do not truly fix the issue.

Each individual is different. Age, overall health, comorbidities and other medical diseases, the degree and severity of erectile dysfunction all play into therapy results, and we see the same range of success when exosomes or stem cells are used in every other medical disease process such as osteoarthritis, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, etc. But you should expect to see results every few weeks. Many notice changes within the first 7-10 days and again in 5-6 weeks; changes are noted again at 3-4 months and on average, the most noticeable results are seen at 6 months. And not surprising, the same timeline variation has been seen with MSC hair restoration, scar improvement, cutaneous lupus, osteoarthritis, etc.

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is mainly applied in wound healing and tissue regeneration. Growth factors, stem cells, and exosomes found in platelets are essential for accelerating the body’s natural ability to stimulate repair and restoration. Because of this, PRP can be used to effectively treat several medical issues, including tendinitis, joint discomfort, and wound healing. However, exosomes have various uses beyond wound healing and tissue regeneration.

Exosomes can regulate the behavior of recipient cells through the transfer of signals and genetic information. Because of this quality, exosomes can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease with the regeneration of nerves with production of nitric oxide synthase, stimulation of collagen, and the repair and growth of blood vessels.
